mWelcome to Salvador Deli Charter
Salvador Deli Yacht Charter
The place to rent a sailing boat in Sotogrande, Spain

El mejor lugar en Sotogrande, Espana para
alquilar un barco de vela
From Sotogrande one can sail to Gibraltar, Marbella, with its famous Puerto Banus, the Spanish enclave of Ceuta or Marina Smir in Morocco. Marina Smir is only a 30 minute taxi ride from Tetouan. The medina (old town) of Tetouan is on the world heritage list of the UNESCO and definitely worth a visit. Alternatively one can sail through the Strait of Gibraltar in the direction of Portugal, passing by the surf paradise Tarifa and visiting the ports of Barbate and Cadiz.
Salvador Deli yacht Charter operates from Puerto Sotogrande in the South of Spain. Its flag ship sailing yacht is a very light grey Hanse 400, build in 2008 but launched in 2009, called Salvador Deli, a modern design fast cruiser racer of German build. The sailboat, registered in Spain and licensed for charter is well equipped with all the necessary safety and navigation equipment and comes with a small outboard and dinghy.
Salvador Deli is normally skippered by its owner Jan Mantel, a very experienced yachtsman, with local knowledge of the area. Jan speaks fluent Dutch and English and does manage very well in French, German and Spanish. Jan, together with his partner Christine runs a boat brokerage and charter business, called Salvador Deli Yachting, based in Puerto Sotogrande. We charter to experienced yachtsmen as well as to novice sailors.
In the South of Spain the sailing conditions are extremely nice. Our charter business is based in the furthest South of the Costa del Sol and only a few miles away from Africa. The weather here is suitable for year around sailing. Generally there is a good wind with a large amount of sunshine. Nearby Marbella claims an average temperature of 18o C throughout the year with more than 300 days of sunshine and less than 50 days of rain. Generally the weather is extremely nice from April till September with very little or no rain. Also in the winter months the sailing conditions are very good although a little more variable and one might need to dress a little warmer.
Our Hanse 400 sailing boat has 3 double cabins and 2 heads of which one with separate shower unit. Because of its 4 m wide beam the boat is extremely spacious on the inside. Standard equipment on the boat includes a self tacking jib, one electric winch for the main sail, plus 5 more winches for the sheets and the optional 120sqm Gennaker, a bimini, dinghy and outboard. Unique for this sailing yacht is the hydraulic anchor with electric winch that is stowed under deck when not in use.
See for more information on page "our charter boat"
Inside the boat in the saloon is a sitting dining area, a navigation table and a well equipped galley. There is a Radio, CD and DVD unit with inside and outside speakers and a flat screen TV. The master cabin is in the bow and has besides plenty of cupboard space an ensuite toilet with hand shower. The 2 other cabins are in the stern and have a double bed and cupboards. The second toilet is in the main saloon and has a separate shower unit.
From Sanlucar de Barrameda it is possible to sail (or motor) down the river Guadalquivir to Seville. It will take about one day to get there and one day back but one can moor the boat in one of the marinas quite close to the centre of the town. Please ask us for more information as there are plenty of other attractive trips possible starting in Puerto Sotogrande. The rental can also start from one of the other harbours nearby, such as Gibraltar, Puerto Duquesa, Estepona or Marbella (Puerto Banus).
We should not forget to mention the wildlife we often see sailing our sailing yacht down the Mediterranean coast or through the Strait of Gibraltar. We often see large groups of grey dolphins or the larger black dolphins playing in front of the bow of the boat.
More difficult to find are the whales but we have seen some in the Strait of Gibraltar when cruising towards Marina Smir and once we encountered two large groups nearby Almeria (see picture on the right). We cannot promise any sightings, you just have to be a little lucky.
